Graz - the green capital of Styria Sascha Filmindustrie Ges., Vienna, 1917
In the Rhythm of the City
The first film was shown in Graz in 1896, one year after the Lumière brothers had presented the “living photographs” in Paris. The new medium shaped contemporary perception and made it possible to experience the world from a different angle—as in this ride through Graz with tracking shots filmed from the driver’s cab of a tram and the Schlossberg Funicular. Such images congenially combined the sensation of the moving image with the accelerated rhythm of modern urban life.
